Vortex Installation and Operation
Transcript of Vortex Installation and Operation:
Hello, welcome to Edge Technologies. My name is Jason Bell, regional service manager of the West Coast, and I’m here today at Edge Technologies headquarters to show you how to install our Vortex mist collectors. So, before us today, we’re here to show you how to install our Vortex 10P coolant mist collector. Right here, we have our main mist collector unit itself. We have our pre filter sock. We have our drain hose. We have our primary HEPA filter and we have ductings and a control breaker. The first thing we want to look at is a suitable mounting option. There’s many varieties out there in the field. One option that Edge Technologies provides us is a separate independent stand or we can use suitable mounting via unistrut, flat plate material, or anything to mount on top of the machine if so desired. Proper measurement is going to be needed to mount our isolation mounts. These are these four rubber isolation studs for our Vortex mis collector and we want to properly secure them to our mounting surface. We want to have an assistant to help place our Vortex on our isolation mounts.
After install has been performed onto the mounts, we are going to secure them with our washer, lock washer, and nuts. Note that these are a rubber isolation mount and we don’t want to tighten too much as it will or can potentially strip the threads. Provided with your Vortex purchase, we have an appropriately rated on and off contactor and overload. We can run our wires into our overload and contactor.
We’re going to check functionality by checking the rotation of our motor with the direction of the arrow. We want to verify that the motor is spinning in the clockwise direction. When wiring our Vortex, we want to make sure we have our supply three-phase power coming into the top on our contactor and our fan motor coming out of the bottom on our overload.
So, now we can go to the installation of our drain hose that’s going to drain coolant back to our machine. We want to have a loop in our system to collect coolant. A loop that’s not too big or too small so we don’t lose suction through the hose.
So now we can proceed to installing the duct work of our mist collector. On our couplers, we have a thread pitched for the wire diameter of our ducting that will allow us to thread onto a coupler. Once we have our coupler installed to our ducting, we can install a hose clamp and secure to the mist collector. A pro tip, when installing the ducting, it might be easier to mount the coupler onto the mist collector and then secure the duct work to the coupler.
This next part gets a little tricky due to the variety of machines in the world, but we have provided a universal duct mount that has a pre-installed seal for the machine. As long as we have a correctly sized 6-in diameter hole to mount to your machine.
After installing the ducting, we can proceed to installing the pre filter, which is washable and reusable. We can make sure we have our pre filter securely installed by getting our seal past the lip of our fan motor.
Then we can install our pre filter sock.
And for our final step, we can install our Vortex HEPA filter.
After we get the Vortex operational, we want to adjust our indicator. It’s this little screw right on the face that we can adjust that range.
We have a yellow area that’s going to talk about a blockage on the intake side of our motor or a red side showing that we have a clogged filter. So, I’m using a piece of cardboard to test and show whether we have a clogged intake port on our gauge.
And on the other side of the gauge, it’s going to show an orange and red indicator to show whether we have a clogged filter. And I’m going to simulate that again with another piece of cardboard.
We change it once we get close to that orange range. And if needed, we have pre-mounted holes for relocating our hinges or our indicator to the other side. If you want to connect your Vortex to the control of the machine, we have an option for a universal electrical kit. In our electrical kit, we have wiring. We have an overload, a contact, and a straight breaker if we want to connect right to power. Provided with your Vortex mist collector, we have an operations manual for any parts and service or questions you may need. So today we demonstrated to you our 10P coolant mist collector. We have 20 and 30p for larger machines as well as an OS for oil-based coolant. If you like what you saw today and if it helped you out, follow us for more. We have more tips and tricks coming. Let us know what you want to see next.
