How to Correctly Test Spindle Liner Straightness
Transcript:
Hi, I’m Brian Griset with Edge Technologies. Today I’m going to show you how to properly measure spindle liner concentricity in barfed applications. When vibration troubleshooting on a barfed application, one thing that I always check is spindle liner concentricity. In order to do that properly, the first thing we want to do is we want to place the spindle liner on a set of V blocks. It’s very important that we place the journals on the VB blocks, not the tube body itself, because it’s the journals that come in contact with the inside of the spindle of the lathe. And what we’re checking is the concentricity from the journal to the inside diameter of the spindle liner. And we’re going to do this very similar to how we check a bar straightness. At this point, once we have the journals resting on the VB blocks and we have our dial indicator resting on the inside diameter of the spindle liner, we’re then going to rotate the spindle liner and again watch the dial for total tube runout. In this case, we want a maximum run out of 5,000 of an inch. Additionally, we want to be sure to check both ends of the spindle liner in the same method. It’s that easy to test spindle liner runout on your bar fed turning application.
